Acadia National Park

It is the crown jewel of the north Atlantic coast — located in the state of Maine, USA.

The park is abundant with different habitats (more than 40 different species of mammalian wildlife), clean air and water, as well as a rich cultural heritage. There are seven peaks which are above 1000 feet, 158 miles of hiking trails, 45 miles of carriage roads and 16 stone bridges to explore. Mount Desert Island, Isle au Haut, parts of Baker Island, a portion of Schoodic Peninsula on the mainland of Maine are all considered as the parts of the park (imagine how big it is).

How did it form? According to New World Encyclopedia(not an affiliate link),

The geological history involves millions of years and numerous geological processes. In short, Acadia today is the product of great expanses of time: massive geological forces come along with mountain building, molten magmas and huge ice sheets which formed the landscape; at the same time the persistent forces of erosion, such as water, wind and waves slowly continue to erode and shape the shorelines. Geologic past can be seen across the island, along rocky shorelines, and atop windswept mountains.

The must see places include Cadillac Mountain, Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and Otter Cliff. If you have plenty of time, Asticou Zalea Garden, Bass Harbor, Bubble Pond, Eagle Lake, Echo Lake, Gorham Mountain, Jordan Pond, Precipice, Sea Wall and Sieur De Monts Spring are worth to pay a visit.

Anyway, to start off, one of the best ways (as recommended) is by visiting one of the two maps – one of Mount Desert Island (it’s an interactive map) or the map of the Schoodic Region (it’s another interactive map) on the mainland.

Since there are so many options (e.g. ranger guided bicycle tours and boat cruises, bus and carriage tours, outdoor activities and also for-kids activities) provided in this large geographical area, it could be a daunting task for visitors to plan a visit. I believe, the employees there are ready to help.

If you have ever visit the national park, do you mind to share your experience with me – an Asian here? I really wish to find out more. 🙂

Cheers,

Miniu
